Assembling the ICF Panels

We began to assemble the ICF panels of our new center this week.Finally all the pieces came together and we were able to prepare our ground floor walls. First the netting had to be cut and wired together, then holes made in the styrofoam for the metal rods, windows and doors, and finally the metal rods were cut and hammered into the plastic pieces. The rest was quite simple – insert the rods into the styrofoam and hammer the “sandwich” together.

Tony and Friends “Boys’ Toys” Christmas 2011 Special

Another Christmas, another Show. This time the “Tony and Friends” has prepared a new show entitled, “Boys’ Toys” – a spoof on the latest gadgets that everyone seems to think they need, and the commercialistic side of Christmas. We will be performing over 30 times in schools, homes for the elderly, children, jails and more. Here are some of the highlights of the show:

Volunteer Center – Our log house

Recently Andrea made some improvements to our log house, as someone needed to stay there during the construction. He build a proper door, plus installed a wood stove as it can get quite cold up there. Thanks to Stefano from Trento, and Daniele from Brescia who contributed.

Building Project – Preparing the Walls

The next step in our construction is to prepare the ICF sandwich. Part of the work was to strengthen the foundation, as originally we had planned a 2 storey building. The boys have been working hard, cutting and preparing the steel mesh, cutting and drilling holes in the styrofoam.

In the meantime, our construction friends strengthened the foundation. We had hoped to complete the outer wall for the first two floors before we began our Christmas shows, but the work took longer than expected. Slowly, but surely the work is continuing.

Volunteering Seminar

" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1807" />On December 2 we held a 3 hour seminar on volunteering attended by high school students from Croatia, Hungary and Austria. This included an hour-long seminar, plus a two hour workshop on relations with people and Smile Therapy. Starting in late January we will begin courses on volunteering in different high schools in the Rijeka area.
